Yesterday I once again picked up a cup of lukewarm coffee (well, actually, Choffy in this case--more on that in a future post), and I realized something.
I hardly ever drink a full cup of coffee, or Choffy, or tea, at home, while it's hot. I forget about it. Later I put it in the microwave to heat it up. I forget it's in the microwave. After an hour or so, I heat it up again. I sip it while I make dinner, and then I once again forget about it.
And I realized this says something about my ability to sit down and truly relax.
Last night I set the alarm on my cell phone. I got up this morning, made Choffy, and sat, without a computer. I spent time with God, because my spirit needed be fed. At the end of my time, I realized I could relax better in the seldom-used dining room, and I moved there.
Tomorrow I'll set my alarm for 15 minutes earlier, since Zoodle and Chickie woke up soon after I did. But despite several interruptions, the time was sweet.
And this was the result:
And while that cup was emptied, a far more important cup was filled!
Reading this post just reminded me that I have no idea where my own half-filled cup of coffee is... :-) Off to hunt! (Luckily, I'm one of those weirdos who prefers her coffee lukewarm - or even cold!)
oooh, nicely said Liz. This has been on my heart lately, too. It's just so hard to set an alarm when I have no idea whether the Little Man is going to stay in bed until 6:30 or decide at 4am that he's had enough of this silliness called sleep. Have to get past the point of excuses, though, right? Do you know how long it's been since I had my tea at all? At any temperature? Me neither.
I do this too. I make my coffee, run, get home and have a cup, and then usually have a half hour or so before Ellie gets up. It's one of the best parts of the day.
Cute cup too!
Good for you! I've been trying to make better use of my time but due to some other issues I'm not keen on giving up sleep when I can find it.
Still, just 15 minutes or so is nice. It's amazing how much we can accomplish in that short amount of quiet time.
Amen to this! And my coffee needs to burn my throat on the way down or it's no good. I often reheat and then get that nasty milk film over the top! Yuckers!
"And in the morning, rising up a great while before the day, Jesus departed and went to a solitary place, where He prayed." Mark 1:35 NFT (Norris Free Translation)
At this stage in life, I am still tempted to forego the prayer. I rarely miss the coffee, though!
What's interesting to me is Choffy. I've never heard of it until now. Where do you get it; and I'll be right over to drink a cup...or I can wait a bit and then reheat my cup in the microwave :-).
I was a stay at home mom too. I remember needing to feed my spirit with God's love. I also had to set my alarm clock earlier because my son had this uncanny way of knowing when I was out of bed.
But time spent with God is worth a few minutes without sleep.
My little Ellie is a late riser. She will sleep until between 9 and 9:30, I on the other hand will wake about 7 to sit with my husband before he heads off to work and then I'll have sometime in which I'll just sit, think and just take everything in before I'm off to start my day with a run on the treadmill. This time really recharges my batteries and I'm already wide awake and ready for my day with Ellie.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I don't believe in coincedence (if that is the right spelling)that you were right behind me on sits!!
Whatever it means I don't know, but I also end up with luke warm coffee too. Good for you that you had some quiet time and finished it. Love the cup and countertop too!
I'm sorta like this too...I LOVE to make a cup of tea. Just the whole ritual of it all....but I rarely ever drink it after I make it!
That's time well spent, I assure you! During the school year, I get my two oldest boys on the bus then come home and have a cup of coffee in the peace and quiet before getting the two little ones up. It really helps me get myself ready for the day.
Ladies, I just posted a 31 day prayer guide for husbands on my blog. Each day focuses on specific scriptures we can pray for them.
I'm challenging other wives to join me this month and support our husbands in much needed prayer.
Beth, so glad you had some sweet time with the Lord. I think Eternal Lizdom said it best.
Also, I have my quiet time around 6:15. I bring a sippy cup of milk for my daughter and she plays in her room while I watch her and sit in the rocking chair.
If she comes up to me whining I just remind her that "Mommy's reading a book right now," and she goes back to playing.Occasionally I have to get her playing with a new toy.
It's good for your children to SEE you reading~especially the Word of God.
Liz--Love that! Thank you!
Kara--I do like cold coffee! But lukewarm...not so much.
Strange Mamma--It really is hard with kiddos who don't always sleep well! I hope I continue to feel like it's worth it even when the newness wears off.
Tia--Wow, Ellie must not be an early riser! I love that you can get that much done before she gets up! Oh, and that cup--Zoodle broke it after I posted this. :(
Our Scoop--Yeah, reheated coffee with milk just never tastes quite right!
Dad--Great verse; thank you!
Kris-- :-D right back at ya!
Laurel--I ordered some, so I'll have to let you try it! See today's post for more info on it.
2cats--Yes, it is worth it!!
caryn--That is so great that Ellie sleeps late and gives you time with your husband, and with yourself!
Lisa--Great to hear from you! :)
Beth--Yes, the ritual is nice...but drinking it is nice too! You should try it! ;)
Steph--Your plan sounds perfect!
Janna--I love the way you work it out with your daughter's early waking time. Thank you for the info on your prayer guide!
I LOVE to make a cup of tea. Thanks for the sharing
