Guess her head isn't as hard as I thought

Photobucket

Aww, isn't that a sweet picture?  A toddler so worn out from a fun day of playing that she conks out on the couch.

Except Chickie DOESN'T conk out on couches.  And she wasn't tired from playing.  She fell asleep after falling off the kitchen table and hitting her head on the tile floor.

Apparently it's normal for kiddos to be unusually sleepy after bonking their heads, and after we answered a bunch of questions on the phone, the doctor said we didn't need to take her to the hospital.  But it was a little scary.  After all, how in the world could I hold my head high in the ER if I brought in a little girl wearing such terribly unmatching clothes?

Once she took a two hour nap and got over some post-nap grogginess, Chickie was fine--a little grumpy but not in pain.  She walked straight, talked coherently, and fought bedtime--business as usual.  She slept in our room last night just so we could keep an eye on her, but I think she's just fine.

I didn't think I'd ever say this, but...here's hoping for a normal, nap-free day tomorrow.

Oh that was funny about the unmatching clothes but it is really scary if your own child is hurt. I would be scared, too. I'm sure.

She is so adorable. I LOVE her!

GOD BLESS YOU ABUNDANTLY! P.U.S.H.

So glad she's ok. Sounds very frightening.

I'm glad she's OK. Just remember, accidents always happen when the kids are wearing very unmatching clothes. Always make sure they match & you should be able to avoid the ER! :)

I don't know if you saw my response on twitter or not, but that happens w/adults as well, sleeping after head trauma, and the fact that the doctor wasn't telling you to rush to the hospital should definitely be a good sign. After my car wreck, I was in and out of consciousness for a few days, I think (I don't remember the experience). When I was released from the hospital, they told me to do puzzles, so if she doesn't already have a few, you may want to invest in some. Better safe than sorry.

I've been concussed more times than I can count - I was always advised to try & stay awake but it does make you very sleepy. Glad she's okay!

hon--It was a little scary!

Mama to a diva--I'm definitely glad too!

Young--Thank you!

Kara--Yes, it was a relief to see her acting normally again.

Call Me Cate--Frightening, yes, but I did get a blog post out of it, so it was worth it. Just kidding....

SciFi Mama--Darn it, I totally did NOT know that parenting rule! I'll remember it from here on out!

Sara--Thank you for the info! I didn't see your Twitter response. I just started following you so I won't miss any responses! Thanks!

Rachel--Hmm, I'd be interested to hear your concussion stories! More times than you can count--now, that does not sound like a good thing!

Poor thing! I always get worried when one of my kids hits their head on something. Especially my younest b/c she's a little monkey and climbs on and falls off everything. I'm always checking their pupils before they fall asleep just to be sure. I hope she feels better tomorrow! :)

C. Beth - In terms of colour of clothing, if you can see it in nature (think winter pansies - green stems and lilac/purple flowers) it can be worn - At least that's my mantra and it has usually worked for me!

It is always a worry when they have bumps... and if you think toddlerhood is challenging, C.Beth, I can only say wait until they turn into teens, girl!
All the best wishes, Fhi x
