Advent calendar

I remember having chocolate advent calendars--with one piece of chocolate for every day of December until Christmas--one or two years as a kid. I can still remember the taste and smell of the chocolate. It wasn't even good chocolate, but I loved it.

So when I saw these little chocolate advent calendars in the World Market ad for $1.79 each, I knew I had to get some for Chickie and Zoodle.

But there was one problem--when I got out the calendars for the kids Tuesday, I realized I'd made a cruel mistake--I hadn't gotten one for myself.

So instead of just watching them eat their chocolate Wednesday, I grabbed a goodie for myself too. I don't get the fun of opening a window every day...but Dove dark chocolate probably tastes a lot better than the candies in the calendars.

Mmm...it really is the most wonderful time of the year!

Advent calendars are so much fun, but that Dove chocolate is way better than the stuff behind the little doors.

I had many advent calendars as a kid but they never involved chocolate. I bet my mother ate them all. We also had a little calendar with a mouse you moved from day to day - I remember fighting with my brother and sister over whose turn it was to move the mouse one spot closer to Christmas.

I Dove chocolate is far superior so you get the best of both worlds - enjoying your chocolate while watching your kids enjoy theirs because they aren't old enough to know the difference in cocoa quality yet!

I used to buy advent calendars from the German Club when I was teaching and the kids used to forget and then "catch up" by going on a chocolate high...this year, they each wrote up a "good deed" calendar (I wrote Christophers)and every day they do the thing listed and color in the box on the calendar.
It was their CCD teachers idea and it's working great so far...

I remember buying those advent calendars for my children and I must have encouraged them to "share" the chocolate with me, because I can remember how it tasted too. The idea of having your own Advent "stash" is a great one that never occurred to me.

Hey, I got gypped! None of the Advent Calendars that I got as a kid had anything even resembling chocolate!! Or candy, or anything edible at all! On my calendars, each day revealed a pretty little Christmas picture. Nice, but not chocolate!!

I do, however, understand what you mean about the "oldtime" chocolate. I get the same longing when the Easter Bunny leaves all those cute little hollow chocolate bunnies for the kids, but none for me! Darn! Kids have all the luck!

I see these candy calendars around and wondered if kids liked them, silly question I guess! I will have to pick some up for my kiddos next year.

Oh wow. I was just telling my Mother-in-Law the other day that I wished I had one of these for my son. I remember having them when I younger and I know he would love them. I can't find them anywhere though.
