Attachment...and kindergarten

I'm a little concerned about the adjustment period when Chickie goes to kindergarten. In my head, I'm imagining this scenario: Chickie is dropped off at her classroom, and while she's a little apprehensive, she's excited, and I expect her to adjust easily. But later in the day, at home, tears begin to flow. Sadness sets in...six hours is a long time to be away from a kiddo you love.

And I'm not talking about my own tears and sadness.

I'm talking about Zoodle's.

You know what I just noticed looking at this photo? My kids' toes totally look alike! For some reason I find that so adorable. Back to our regularly scheduled topic....

Lately I've realized just how attached Zoodle is to his big sister. He's had a couple of genuine meltdowns when we've tried to plan outings with only him. He wants her there with him.

I love seeing the friendship between my two kids! I'm just a little concerned about Zoodle's adjustment when he's alone with me all day.

On the other hand, I think this could be a great thing for him...helping him to develop his independence. And I'm looking forward to getting some special time with just him, like I had with Chickie before he was born.

So while Mommy may not be the only one shedding tears on August 22nd, I hope that Zoodle will quickly realize that his sister is still his friend--and weekends are even better when you have the opportunity to miss each other during the week.

Poor little Zoodle. I'm sure it will be hard for him at first but he will adjust to his special Mommy time and probably grow to love it. Maybe some extra fun adventures at first will help ease him into the new routine with some distractions.

I'm sure Zoodle will find it hard to start with especially when Chickie gets home and is really tired too so won't want to play quite as much as normal for a few weeks. But, this will be a lovely time for him and you to enjoy until he goes off to school, it comes round so quickly xx

I know I will be the one shedding some major drops the first week of kindy, but Mason on the other hand he says, " No mom we just drop him off, I say goodbye, and then we come pick him up." Glad he's got it down pat :)

It will be an adjustment period for sure. Probably the best way to market it to everyone involved is to start early with the positive focus. Yay, quality time for Mommy and Zoodle! Yay, new friends and learning for Chickie! Yay, special evening and weekend times!

But, yeah, probably going to be a few tears along the way.

How cute...even though I'm ten years older than my little brother, we're still really close & attached to each other. It'll be interesting to see what happens when I leave home in 3-4 years :(

So cute. But...there will have to come a time when they go their own ways. Wont there?

We'll be going through this together! Teagan is about to leave the school she and Zach attend together and she's going off to 1st grade and he's staying at the preschool. It's going to be tough for both of them.

One thing we did before and will do again is to make small photo albums for each of them with pics of them this past summer. Keep it in the backpack and it's there if you feel sad.

I think this is normal for the second child. Peanut is so lost without her big brother.... it's funny. She walks around the house not knowing what to do with just herself... and when Coqui returns, it's back to fighting....
But I am sure Zoodle will adjust quickly and find that he can have fun with just him and Mami, because he never really had that, and I believe sometimes he wants just that!
And he can have his own play dates now, making his own friends!!!
