Skinny jeans

Okay, so I know "skinny jeans" have been all the rage for a couple of years now. But they're for teenagers, right?! Well, lately I've noticed that some 30-somethings have successfully adopted the skinny jean look. Then I was at Target and saw some cute ones on sale for $15. So I grabbed them and when I got to the register, realized I'd forgotten to try them on. (But let's be honest, with two kids in tow sometimes returning clothes is easier than getting a fitting room anyway.)

I got home and gave them a try....

...and you know, I like them! I won't be giving up my bootcut jeans any time soon, but these will be a nice option in my wardrobe. I'm not even sure I'm wearing them with the right type of shirt, but if the fashion police cite me, I'll just tell them I'm making my own style!

I may not look 16 anymore (and don't really want to) but I suppose I can get a few fashion tips from those young 'uns. (Of course, they really got the "skinny jean" tip from my generation, so I guess we're going full circle now!)

So, ladies, what do you think? Are any of your jeans slim all the way down? Or should skinny jeans stay in the '80s and '90s (or on girls born in the '80s and '90s)?

I don't think of skinny jeans as a teen-only thing - I see them on women of all ages around here. I think they are more a body-type thing - I don't think the look is flattering on me, though I think they look great on others (like you!). You look fab!

It's not a look that would work for me, but it seems to work for you so I say go for it!

I keep meaning to ask - you said sneakers now make your feet feel hot and heavy when you run. Do you have the same issues now with regular shoes? I noticed you're wearing your huraches (sorry if I spelled that wrong).

I wouldn't call those skinny jeans. I would call them jeans that fit your body! Don't get stuck in the Mom Jeans rut. :)

YOU can pull the look off! It's definitely not a "teenager only" thing IF you've got the right body type, and you do!

They look VERY cute on you!

you look mahvelous! The style for some reason suggests a lean and capable sort of power. I think they are very suitable for you!

I say, wear them. You are rockin' those jeans!! A lot of people shouldn't be wearing them, but you are not one of them.

You look awesome in skinny jeans!

I was in Gap a while back with an awesome discount. On a whim (mostly to laugh at myself and make the jeans I planed to buy look better on me) I tried on the skinny jeans. I was sure they would look horrible on my larger frame. It was a huge shock when they fit and felt really awesome. I have to wear them with a tunic to feel comfortable but I am 32 and happy to be rocking skinny jeans.

They'll definitely be a hit when you wear boots with them! I just don't have the thighs/hips for the skinny jeans (or jeggings?)

Your hair sure is getting long:-)

As someone who will still be a teenager for a couple of months and who is wearing skinny jeans right now, I say go for it, CBeth! You look cute!

Beth, you look fabulous!

Bobbi, LOL!

I have been having the exact same debate in my mind for the past month, and a few days ago in Target, I too succumbed and bought the (probably identical to yours) $15 skinny jeans. I haven't ventured out in them yet - I think I'm still trying to decide what kind of top to wear with ... I have a few longer tops and that's what I'll probably go with.

I also remember driving my mother absolutely nuts shopping for jeans with me when I was a teen -- I could never find them skinny enough for my legs! (I don't think they had as many stretchy jean fabrics back then, although I remember Becki having an awesome pair.)

I'm also wondering what kind of shoes to wear with them in the winter. I think they look great with sandals and flats, but when it's time for socks ... I'm not sure. I think I need fashion help!

P.S. Sorry so long. :P

You're totally HAWT! :)

Skinny jeans are well suited for your body type. They won't be making an appearance in my wardrobe any time soon. I have friends who look adorable in skinny jeans with a slim tunic sweater and fancy belt at the waist.
