Monday Micro: NPR

New series--Monday Micro.  It'll be a nice, short post.  Guaranteed to be one of the following--funny, profound, or neither.  You'd think I'd be better at writing short posts judging from the subject of my other blog.  Ah, well, I'll work on it.  Once a week, anyway.

Before I get to that, today is the last day of the art giveaway!  Be sure to enter if you haven't.

On to business...

***

I think this would be a fun start for a stand-up comedy bit, or a story in The Onion:

National Public Radio is making an effort to increase its listenership, by reaching out to common Americans.   So starting later this year, NPR will be sponsoring...

...a NASCAR driver.

Ha - I love it! Nothing like expanding your, errr, demographics.

I struggle endlessly with short posts. Hopefully you rub of on me!

Comparing tags to content: Chickie is a NASCAR driver? Wow, your girl is precocious! :)

It may work for about a day, longer if NPR "dumbs down" the content.

NPR's current sponsor for its morning drivetime news show is Fox. There have been ads on for the 24 season premiere the last few days.

I am NOT joking. D and I heard it and asked each other, "Did they just say what I though they said?"

I work for a company that is heavily involved in Nascar... 3M. They spam my mailbox with racing crud all. the. time.

Should NPR, my haven, my solace, ever lower themselves to do the same... I fear I'd be forced to switch over to the teeny bopper pop station.

Joe is NOT going to like this. Not one bit. I can't wait to tell him!

Is that for real? I wonder what marketing genius came up with that one. What's next - Budweiser becoming a major sponsor of NPR?

Okay...this is totally not true, and I really didn't mean for anyone to think it was! I was listening to an NPR podcast (thanks, Becki!) and for some reason my train of thought went around to this: "Wouldn't it be really funny if NPR sponsored a NASCAR driver?" I thought it would be a great topic for a stand-up comic but honestly, I don't know enough about NPR or NASCAR to write much more than that.

And I knew writing it that quite possibly the only person who would find it funny was me. Which is okay, because it's fun to amuse myself. :)

Lyndsay-Yes, I am so long-winded!

Rachel-Oops. :-D Fixed it.

Sara--It would be interesting to see if it worked (if it was really happening!)

Becki-That's interesting. I wonder what market research led to that decision?

Liz--NOOOO! Not teeny bopper pop! ;)

Call Me Cate--Be sure to tell him...it's a JOKE!

Becky-See above. :)

What about Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) sponsoring NPR. The end of the world is truly nigh!

Whoa, D just told me that PBR really is an NPR sponsor - click on his link. Curiouser and curiouser...

Becki & d--I don't know anything about PBR, so I asked The Engineer, "What's the deal with Pabst Blu Ribbon Beer?" He responded, "I don't know. Some resurgence of crappy beer." :)

That is almost too kooky to be made up! When I was in college at UW Madison, that is where the Onion, er, blossomed so to speak. We read it with great enthusiasm every week! The Onion presents Our Dumb Century is a classic book! Inspired! Thanks for reminding me...
Enjoy the day!
