Word of the Year

I'm a big fan of Lisa Leonard's handmade jewelry.  This month's featured design is a word of the year necklace. It's customized with whatever word you want to focus on this year.

What is your word of the year for 2009? I've still got to think about this, and when I come up with mine, I'll post it in the comments section.

That's tough. I have commitment issues, especially if I can only have ONE word.

I'm going to give it some more thought but the first word that came to mind was "focus".

Okay, you sort of had my hopes up that you were doing a Lisa Leonard giveaway, LOL.

Okay, word of the year: SIMPLIFY

If I'm feeling pessimistic - MIGRAINE. Near-daily now, and hoping the New Year's lifestyle change (along with a visit to my neurologist next Thursday to reevaluate our treatment plan) will improve things.

And, if I'm feeling more optimistic - LEARNING. I've learned so much this year, through mentoring new teachers, researching health and diet issues, teaching 7th graders and always finding more effective ways to convey the concepts, and consistently working on my relationship with my husband and daughter.

(Molly's word, BTW, is TWO - she's been practicing her two-year-old ways for months now, perfecting her scream. This year has been the second year of her life, and on New Year's Day she will officially be two.)

My word would have to be:

WORK

When I tend to start to feel anxious, worried or self-centered, it is through WORK that I get my mind off my troubles and things work out when I work them out.
I have found when I do my Part, the Lord steps in and helps me with the rest.

WORK

CALM. Which is closely related to the ever popular "Peace", but I have been focusing on making our home a sanctuary of calm and removing all elements of chaos from our lives. We have been having so much more fun as a family since I (as the momma) have been creating our calm home.

Hope Beckiwithani feels better soon
