Why can't that mother control her child?!

So, let's say you were at McDonald's yesterday for lunch.  You sat there calmly eating your sandwich and people-watching.

And then you heard it.

"Firstname Middlename Lastname," a mother cried, "we do NOT lick the floor!"

Were you there?

Because if you were, you just had the honor of meeting C. Beth and Chickie...in all our chaotic glory.

You certainly have a creative way of telling your stories.

Sorry but that's just too funny. So why was she licking the floor?

I understand your frustration though. I'd be so shocked if my kid do that in the future. hehehe!

I've been there ... except, for some reason, it's the handhold-pole on the train that Molly likes to lick when she can reach it from her stroller. Gross.

I guess it improves their immune systems, yeah?

So that's why you have to wear them - then they can't reach!!

Those moments are hilarious. What runs through your mind is: "I never thought in my life I would ever have to say something like this."

Case in point: yesterday overheard in my classroom.

"Levi, get that paperclip off your tongue. It's stuck? Okay, go to the nurse."

Oh yes!! I also have those "I swore I'd never say ____" moments!!

Very funny!

ewwwwwwwwww

But yup, I've been in the same situation.

ewwwww! Glad I haven't had to deal with that one yet!

I've found I'm so much more tolerant of other people's children since having K. Everybody has their days.

I would have been laughing my ass off had I been there. Just knowing it wasn't my kid would have warmed my heart. I feel for you, I really do... trust me, there is more to come HAHAHAHA!

Beth I think you owe me a new laptop because I just spit Diet Coke all over mine. Too funny!

and here's why... when my little angel was almost 3, my hubby was at the play place with her and she was climbing around up in the netting in the top when suddenly everyone was turning around to see where that running water was coming from... yes, my daughter peed from the top of the climby place at McDonalds. Had I been there, instead of hubby, I'm sure I would have died of embarassment.

Oh yeah! Been there, done that. I'd've been one of those moms snickering quietly to myself in recognition of the sisterhood of moms of toddlers.

My wife gets that look all the time when she goes out with 4 kids. Some of the things she has had to say have been quite funny though. I think she's making a list of them somewhere -- greats like "stop picking your sister's nose" and "stop eating the dog's food!" Ah, good times.

BAHAHAHAHAHA...

I feel for ya (*snicker*)...really, I do.

I'm putting this on the list of things I have to look forward to.

C. Beth...that is just the funniest thing! My children didn't lick the floor, but I can assure you that Chickie will outgrow that phase! Enjoy the day!

And you wonder why we bother to sterilized baby bottles? Shopping carts are almost as bad;-)

So funny!
I am right there with you...my 16 month son likes to spit on the floor to get it wet and then put him mouth on it to make fart sounds... Ugh...

Oh, that's funny. Poor you but at least you got a good story out of it. And I'd say chances are pretty slim that she'll catch scurvy or anything. :P

Hahahaha! I have so had those moments. Abby once kissed Lizzy's naked bottom as I was changing a diaper. Thank goodness I had already wiped off the poop but EW. And I never thought I'd have to say "Abby! Do NOT kiss your sister's bottom!"

Ok, so mine doesn't lick the table. She licks the little pumps for ketchup and BBQ sauce. She licks the table. And... when I pop her mouth, she licks my hand.

I certainly feel your pain in this one! (Needless to say, we don't take our 5 year old out in public often!)

Leslie said...

oops... that last one was supposed to say "doesn't lick the floor", but I'm sure you could have figured that one out!

Janell said...

Ha ha! Sadie is a big fan of eating off the floor. Why is it that it's ok with her to eat dirty, unknown things off the floor, but carrots are out of the question??

Love it!! (And glad to know all toddlers have their shining moments!!)

Awkward....

The funny thing is, my school closed early because of our lovely Canadian weather so I actually did have McDonalds for lunch because I got to go home early! :)

Okay, let's put a positive spin on this. How about this "Chickie's used to living in a house where the floors are so clean you could eat off them. So, she assumed all floors are like that!" Is that working? No? Sorry. That's my best try. Otherwise, I would just say, cute as they are, little children can sometimes just do really gross stuff!

Lyndsay said...

Oh, whew. I thought this was going to end with "end then I looked up at the mom who said that ..."

and I thought for a moment you hd caught me. Whew.

Oh was that you?

gosh, I am glad that my 7 year old Autistic daughter is not the ONLY kid that does that!!! my God, what are they thinking?!? :o)

C. Beth said...

WOW--If I'd known that would elicit such a response, I would have poured barbecue sauce on the floor earlier! ;) That IS what she was licking--barbecue sauce that I had spilled (accidentally, I assure you.)

I like to spend time in the evening responding to all the comments that day's post has gotten--and tonight I just can't. It's only 9:30 but I'm tired and need to get to bed soon.

So...thank you to everyone who commented and to those who reminded me that their kids are just as "insane" as Chickie, which really just means they're all normal toddlers. :)

Hilarious only after the fact - right? But so hilarious! You are so honest - I LOVE IT!! :)

OMG I can just picture that happening because I've been there with my daughter!

Thanks for the note/prayers.
Also, I'll be watching to see which prompt it is that you've picked!
I enjoy both of your blogs.
Thanks again.

It's the McDonald's curse, I tell ya. Remember my ds, the pooping troll? Something about that place really brings the best out in the little ones!

Kristi said...

Thanks for the giggle! Since Beth started crawling ( 2-3 weeks ago) she's become a serious tile licker. So gross, but kind of funny, too. Of course when she does it at a McDonald's I might not think it's so funny anymore!

I bounced from Cakewrecks over to you. This is hysterical! I witnessed a similar interaction with my brother & his daughter. She took one of my mother's decorative snowflakes and he said, "That's for looking...I said LOOKING, not LICKING!" Hahahaha

This made me think of my friends son who came down with a stomach bug. It hit him hard while at Mc Donalds. So he is in the bathroom yelling "Help Mommy my butt is throwing up."
