Monday Micro: Genuine

I went to a Mexican restaurant for breakfast Saturday, one I'd never visited. I was pleased to note that the Taqueria had a good percentage of Latino patrons and an entirely Latino staff--both indicators of a place serving real Mexican food.

Then I looked at the menu and saw the biggest proof that the restaurant serves genuine Mexican food. Diners can order breakfast tacos filled with beef brains.

The salsa and refried beans were great--but I'm sorry, you'll have to look elsewhere for a review of the beef brain tacos.

But I wanted to see your review of beef brain tacos, lol! It can be nice to go to an authentic restaurant, until you try to ask for extra cheese and they bring you a plate of limes instead.

Okay. I'm making myself a note ... be verrrry careful to specify what I want as the meat in my tacos at authentic Mexican restaurants! I had no idea!

Mexican restaurants and breakfast aren't something I really think of, but a new one just opened not too far from us, and they do have something I can't remember the name of (it includes chorizo), that is scrambled eggs with lots of stuff in them -- absolutely delicious!

Lol...I don't think I'd review those either but I'm always amazed at how many people think that going to Taco Bell means they had "mexican" food for dinner...those same people complain if they go to a real mexican restaraunt, saying it didn't taste right!! Have you ever had Horchata?

we'd like to thank you for using the preferred term "Latinos"; many folk confuse us with a Language and call us Spanish. :-)

so, you've never tasted head cheese?
gotta give it a try. lol!

No brains for me either.
My husband lived in South America and he has stories of the things he tried to eat. Things that would never make it into my mouth.
I wish I knew how to type the word for the sound I am making right now.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Ha ha ha! Hilarious! Nasty and a half. Yuck. yuck. yuck. Although we did have the pleasure of tasting beef heart at a Peruvian restaurant.
