First, grab some tissues...

...then add August Rush to your Netflix queue (or head to Blockbuster or just buy it!)

The critics panned it. And they're right that it's sappy, formulaic, unbelievable, and predictable.

But for pure, escapist entertainment value, I agree not with the critics but with Netflix viewers (4 out of 5 stars) and Amazon customers (4.3 out of 5 stars.) It's incredibly sweet; has a good soundtrack; and provided both The Engineer and me with a great, feel-good cry fest.

And it's rated PG, so it's family-friendly. There were a few parts that could frighten young or sensitive children.

Seriously, real life might not work the way it works in this movie, but sometimes that's the point. It's a beautiful story. Watch it!

I'm embarrassed to admit I've never even heard of this movie (I don't get out much). It's always nice to hear about a good movie, though! I almost never agree with the critics, so I can't go by that.

Tia--Yay, another sucker for emotional, feel-good movies! Honestly, I think some critics think the best movies should touch us intellectually. And that can be a good thing, but who's to say it's not just as good to touch us emotionally?

Rebecca--Listen to your parents and rent it! :)

Becky--It's okay, we hadn't heard of it either. The Engineer saw the description and thought it sounded like something I'd like.

Kara--Ooh, report back and let me know what you think!

Hey! Are you copying my Movie Review Mondays?! LoL Ok, I'll forgive you this time... :) I've never seen the movie but I just might have to add it to my queue. That is if I ever send back the three movies I still have sitting here for the last month. Thank goodness for no late fees.
