Assistant chef

One nice thing about letting your toddler stand on a stepladder and "help" make dinner is that you learn interesting things about food preferences. For instance, I now know that Chickie likes raw onion and raw garlic.

Let this post serve as my warning and apology to her future spouse and any other boys she may kiss. I'll try to at least keep her away from anchovies, okay?

Ah yes, the assistant chef. We have one too. And she eats the same things. And olives. My child will eat more olives than she puts on her pizzas. But aren't they so cute helping out?

Angie--Oh, yes, so cute! I'm looking forward to when she is able to actually help, in a way that will save me time. Maybe next week I'll give her the duty of washing dishes. ;)

Impressive food choices Chickie. I can't get my 2 1/2 year old to eat a peanut butter sandwich right now never mind onions & garlic.

I'm beginning to think that Molly likes stuff when she sees that we are doubtful that she'll like it. I think it's inadvertent reverse psychology. "Yeah, give her a sip of black coffee -- she'll hate it!" "Of course, let her try the salt-and-vinegar chips -- she'll never ask Mama to share her guilty PMS pleasure again!" "That absolutely incredible $10 French Saucisson sausage we bought at the gourmet foods store? She doesn't like ANY meat, so let her try it and she'll learn her lesson!"

Guess who likes black coffee, salt-and-vinegar chips, and $10 sausage (but NO other meat)?

Do you figure this says something about our little one's personalities? I think the kick they get out of surprising us might come back to bite us when they're teenagers....

Wow! At least it'll keep the vampires away. :-)

Kerri--Oh, we went through our picky phase, and she still refuses to eat certain foods...but I'm surprised how varied her palate has become, based on her limited "likes" awhile back! I'm sorry you're dealing with pickiness!

Becki--Chickie's likes & dislikes were VERY similar to Molly's when she was a bit younger! How interesting!

Becky--Ha! Hope so!
