Monday Micro: Aaaargh!

This morning was supposed to be the last official day of my Couch-to-5K program. I was supposed to do a 30-minute run (not 5K yet for me, but I'm getting there.) After 21 minutes, I suddenly caught my foot on my dog (who runs with me, his leash tied to my waist), and I went down. My hands and knees hit first, then my hip, and lastly my head. (And judging from how my shoulder feels, I either hit it, or it took the brunt of the force when my hands broke my fall.)

I don't think I have any real injuries, but we'll see how I feel tomorrow. I expect I'll be somewhat sore. I certainly didn't feel (physically or emotionally) like continuing to run, so I walked straight home.

I've been working so hard on this program, and to be stopped with a fall, 2/3 of the way through my last run, is so disheartening! I know I can finish it on my next running day (Thursday), but for now I'm having just a bit of a pity party. (And pity parties don't burn nearly as many calories as running does.)

Oh no! Sorry to hear that! I'm sure Thursday's run will be great! Congrats on getting to the end of the C25K. Feels great, doesn't it?

Just think! Now you can talk about your life before the Fall and after the Fall. You will be fine as you learn from your bruises. Take it from an expert who still falls occasionally! Love, Dad

That's such bad luck! I hope you haven't injured yourself.

Hope you're ok. Make a promie to yourself to go out tomorrow no matter what, even if you walk for 30 minutes. I like your blog. I found you via the 60 second writing blog, because my new year resolution is to write every day. Thanks for helping me with that:) Great idea!

Oh goodness! Hope you're okay.

I tripped just walking on the treadmill on Saturday and hurt for several hours afterward.

Oh no!!! I hope you don't have a lot of soreness from such a fall! Ugh!

I'm reminded of my mom... she was in dental school when I was a kid. She was on her way to her last clinical, her last final, the last thing she had to do to graduate... and she reached down to pick up her equipment and injured her back. She finished and graduated but has had back problems ever since. She was laid out flat for over a week... it was an injury that sparked a string of life changing events for us and took us into a fast forward mode we hadn't anticipated.

But that has little to do with your fall- I was just reminded of it!

I hate to hear that Beth- so sorry! Hope you heal quickly and get back in the swing of things. Keep me posted!

OH NO! Falls are awful. You sometimes hurt in places you didn't know you had!! And sometimes the injuries don't show up til the next day, so be prepared (particularly your arms and shoulders from breaking your fall). Everytime I have fallen and used my arms to break the fall, I have ended up breaking some part of ME, instead!! My crowning glory was falling in a dance rehearsal for "My Fair Lady" and breaking both my right wrist AND my left elbow. Let me tell you, that was real fun. Hope you had a "break-less" one and feel better soon.

I bet the dog is just fine!

So sorry you fell. I know it's frustrating and hurtful, both to your body and your pride. But just remember it wasn't your lack of ability that made you cut the run short - it was an accident. Those things happen to the best of them. You'll be awesome on Thursday.

I echo Sam. Now I know all about falls too. I'm sorry you fell. Yikes!! But, just give yourself a few days, and you will accomplish your goal. It sounds like you should be okay...I'm glad. Let me know if you need anything.

I hope that you don't feel too bumped and bruised tomorrow. What a crummy way to end your challenge.

Sorry to hear about your run. I just started the couch to 5K program a few weeks ago. I can't wait to the 30 min. run (I've been doing time and not distance..so I'm pretty sure the 30 min. run won't be a 5K for me either). Keep going!!!

Rotten darn luck. Tomorrow make a quick trip to the chiropractor. Even though nothing is seriously damaged, you certainly are now out of alignment. He will put you back in place and in a few days you will be good as new.

What a coincidence. I had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me on the same day!

Wellll, except I was in a mall instead of on the street ... wearing high heeled boots instead of running shoes ... was walking instead of running ... and it was snowy water on the tile floor right inside the entrance that tripped me up instead of a faithful pet beside me.

But other than that -- it was EXACTLY the same!

Seriously, I AM sorry you fell when you were doing so well with your training. I hope you won't have too many residual aches and pains and can get back to it soon. :)

(My pride was my main injury and it will heal quickly so I'll be back to shopping in no time!)

Oh no! Glad to hear you weren't hurt too badly but I do hope the injuries you have heal quickly. That is frustrating. Just think how much more accomplished you'll feel if you stick to it and continue on.

Sorry to say, I know how you feel! I'm a complete klutz and it can really put a crimp in my workout schedule. Right now, I'm just happy it's only a broken toe. I have a cotton ball and some tape and I'm determined that it's not going to stop me!
Great job on your training, and may you bounce back quickly!

Hopefully, your fall was just a minor setback. I know that you have set the goal for a 5K run, and that 30 minutes of running was one of the steps for that goal. You WILL make it, and you will shake off this delay, we all are pulling for you. Just think about the story "The Little Train That Could," and you will.

Hang in there.
