Playmates

Chickie is finally old enough that our dog Hammer finds it fun to play with her. This is a pretty big deal, as Hammer normally likes to play rough. The Engineer literally picks him up and throws him, and he comes back for more. He doesn't play rough with kids; he just gets bored easily. But Chickie's strong enough now to play a semi-decent game of tug-of-war with him, and they both enjoy it.

I really am glad we've reached this phase. Honestly, since having kids, having a dog is more of an annoyance than anything. (Boy, I hope he's not reading this!) But now that Chickie is learning to play with him I think it'll be a great thing for both of them. Now if I could just keep him from jumping up to get food off our countertops, we'd be in great shape.

What do you call Ana's hairstyle in that picture? Yesterday when I was talking to her on the webcam, I said I liked her "doggie ears" (what we called it growing up.) She didn't get it -- she just kept saying, "My doggie's OUTSIDE! My doggie's OUTSIDE!"

Yeah, we just call it "pigtails" even though that was braids in our household. I've found hardly anyone has heard the term "doggie ears" so, while it's a totally appropriate term, we just went with the more commonly-used one.

I know exactly what you mean about a dog being an annoyance more than anything. I have 2 dogs and it seems like just another task taking care of them. Plus, I feel horrible because it seems if I am totally ignoring them now that Garrett has come along. I hope that Garrett will be able to play with them in a couple of years...the only thing is I worry they may be too old by then. They are currently 8 and 12 years old!

I know exactly what you mean! Well- sort of. George is small and very mellow- but when I'm nursing Paxton he comes and sits on him! He has to be touching me every moment that I am on the couch- baby or not! LOL.
