Milestones

Zoodle and Chickie are both hitting some important milestones. First for the not so fun ones....

Chickie's been having some sleep issues resulting in two zombie-like parents who disagree over who took her back to bed in the middle of the night (and eventually figure out we both did, at different times). So imagine my relief when I found that her first 2-year molar has popped through. Three more molars to go...but at least knowing the (possible) cause of her nighttime waking gives me hope that this phase will pass once the teething is over.

I'm actually hoping Zoodle is teething too. He's also been having some sleep difficulties and I'd love to be able to blame it on teeth. Chickie's first tooth didn't break through until 11 months(!) though, so I'm skeptical that Zoodle would be teething now.

And now for the fun stuff...

Photobucket

Zoodle is darn close to sitting up on his own. He can prop himself up on his hands, as you see in this picture, for a maximum of several seconds. (Then he topples over to the side, which I find quite entertaining. Yeah, yeah...no Mommy of the Year award for me.) I think he'll enjoy sitting up; it affords a new perspective on the world. I'll enjoy it too--it's nice to be able to sit a baby up on a blanket or even just on the floor, with a few toys. And the beauty of it is, that baby stays in one place. Sitting? Bring it on. Mobility? I think one mobile child at a time is enough, so, Zoodle, if you could just wait to crawl until Chickie reaches, oh, kindergarten age, I'd be much obliged.

Also in the picture above you can see that Zoodle has discovered his feet. He really enjoys grabbing them. I love how feet are built-in toys at this age. When he lays on his back he tries to get his feet into his mouth, and he's getting close. Once he succeeds, his feet will be built-in teething toys. Now that's pretty awesome.

Half of you are smiling with me, thinking about the cuteness of a baby chewing on their toes. The other half of you are packing up antibacterial wipes to send me. Don't worry...I draw the line at my kids eating my toes. (Not that Chickie hasn't tried.)

Teething - I don't miss that. But at least you know it will pass. Both of my boys popped out their first teeth well before 11 mos. So Eli may be teething. You never know.

Cute cute cute!!

Awww, I feel your pay. I can't seem to talk Gunny into sleeping all night and in his own bed. I can't believe how big Eli is getting. So freakin' cute!

Abby wrapped up teething back in December... and I'm so not looking forward to Lizzy starting on hers! Get that Motrin out, Beth! :-)

Ah, yes. That's a good age, when you can put the baby down, leave the room, and when you come back he'll still be where you left him. Too bad that stage lasts such a short time.

I hope the rest of Ana's teeth come in quickly. That's not fun for any of you.

Dalton just cut his first 2 year molar too! We had an awful week that week as well. He was not himself at all and I could tell he was in soooo much pain :( I hope the others aren't as bad for both us!

I've known parents whose kids teethed at radically different ages. So it could be that!

Molly is a hard teether. Her final of the first 16 is coming now. She's hurting (and telling us about it at 4 AM). She's the slowest teether ever, too. Takes her weeks to cut a tooth -- weeks of actually seeing the red gums and the white tooth almost poking through!

Congrats to Eli for sitting up! Yay!

I'm excited about the sitting and feet thing as Garrett is on the verge of both, too.

You may have a teether on your hands, because Garrett isn't sleeping so well either and has been waking me nonstop to nurse, he also gnawls down on everything he can get his hands on and its pretty forceful. I've seen the teeth peer through, but then nothing and if I rub my finger along his gum, I can feel them. I think he has a ton cutting, but our luck it will take ages. Was Ana cutting until 11 months?

Hey Beth,
Cute pic of Eli. Olivia is a few weeks older but not that steady yet. She is however sucking on her toes which I agree is very cute and somewhat disgusting at the same time!

This is my first comment but I enjoy your blog.
